BoulderLight Pictures was founded on the principle of producing and selling progressive projects for an ever-evolving international market. With a strong emphasis on the economics as well as the quality, and with an interest in elevated genre material, BoulderLight is actively looking for new voices and stories. We believe everyone should be pleased with a film, from the investors to the audience.

Originally from New York, J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules have been interested in film since before they first met in Hebrew School. Shortly after moving to LA in 2012, they launched BoulderLight Pictures.

Their first film, the STD horror film Contracted, was a major VOD hit for IFC Midnight, garnering a limited theatrical release, before going on to be the most streamed film on Netflix. A sequel, Contracted: Phase II was pre-sold to IFC and was released in Fall 2015. Over the following years, BoulderLight continued to grow its production arm with a number of genre films, including Dismissed, Bad Match, and New York Times Critics’ Pick Dementia. Their most recent release, fraternity horror film Pledge, premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival, and was released by IFC Midnight in January 2019.

At the 2014 Cannes Marche du Film, BoulderLight launched its international sales arm with a strong focus on bringing exciting and fresh genre content to foreign markets. Since then, they have garnered relationships with some of the biggest independent distributors around the world, including Making Film Productions LTD. - one of Hong Kong's most prominent entertainment companies with whom BoulderLight has a 3 picture slate deal - and MM2 Entertainment - Singapore's leading film company.

Later this year, BoulderLight will be releasing the scifi/horror anthology film Portals, which features segments directed by Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project), Gregg Hale (V/H/S 2), Timo Tjahjanto (Headshot), and Liam O’Donnell (Skyline franchise).

Their latest film is a terrifying horror tale steeped in ancient Jewish mysticism. The Vigil, written and directed by Keith Thomas in his directorial debut, will premiere as part of the highly esteemed Midnight Madness program of the Toronto International Film Festival.

Currently, BoulderLight is in production on the über-stylish thriller Becky, directed by Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion (Bushwick, Cooties) and starring Kevin James (Paul Blart franchise, King of Queens) and Lulu Wilson (Haunting of Hill House, Annabelle: Creation).

BoulderLight has multiple projects in development and pre-production. The company continues to seek inspired and imaginative storytellers from around the world in order to create innovative content for an evolving audience.
